UEMS Singapore Bags 6 Awards  (4 Outstanding Prizes and 2 Merit Prizes)

UEMS Singapore clinched a grand total of 6 Awards in all three categories (i.e. Productivity Award, Innovation Award and Continuous Improvement Award) at the Healthcare Supplier Awards Ceremony (HSA) 2017, which was organised by the National Healthcare Group in collaboration with National University Hospital, Health Promotion Board and Agency for Integrated Care on 31 October 2017. The HSA 2017 aims to encourage more strategic win-win initiatives between the suppliers and the participating healthcare institutions, leading to enhanced patient care and safety, reduced operational risk, and improved operational efficiency and productivity.


UEMS' relentless drive in embarking on quality and productivity initiatives and implementing them successfully at the affiliated healthcare facilities over the past few years {i.e. Khoo Teck Puat Hospital (KTPH), National University Hospital [Medical Centre; NUH (Medical Centre)], Tan Tock Seng Hospital (TTSH), Yishun Community Hospital (YCH)} has been recognised by the healthcare industry (see below Table).

UEMS’ productivity journey began more than 5 years ago when the service industry was confronted with major challenges such as increased cleanliness standards in the healthcare environment, higher expectations on service quality, tight local labour market, and greater operating costs. To navigate successfully in a heightened operating environment, UEMS focused on building organisational and operational capabilities such as strengthening its training, reward and retention systems, better planning and optimization of finite resources as well as leveraging on its own in-house proprietary technology systems and cutting-edge cleaning equipment and mechanization. With the aim of maintaining greater control of improving service quality, UEMS designed and developed the UETrack™ capabilities internally where operational processes such as attendance monitoring, deployment of available manpower, inter-departmental communication of issues, and daily and joint inspections are automated into one single system for greater synergistic outcomes.


These projects have been shown to greatly enhance housekeeping and portering standards, contribute to a cleaner, hygienic environment, productivity results, real-time updates, flexibility, customization according to different clientele needs, scalability, more engaged supervisors and staff who can better support healthcare operations and deliver greater overall experience for patients, visitors and staff. Lastly, the most important function of UETrack™ helps to promote integrity and trust in the way UEMS conducts its businesses by providing clients with data transparency for making good decisions.

ALEXANDRA HOSPITAL (SENGKANG HEALTH)

Alexandra Hospital is a 400-bed hospital located in the south-western part of Singapore. Nestled in a 110,000 square metres land, the hospital is lined with mostly colonial style buildings, it was built since the late 1930s. Jurong Health Services (JH) has been managing Alexandra Hospital since August 2010 with UEMS providing housekeeping services in the hospital. When JH moves to the new Ng Teng Fong Hospital, the current Alexandra Hospital will be run by a new team from Sengkang Health. UEMS participated in the tender for both Housekeeping and Portering Services put up by SengKang Health last year and UEMS was awarded the contract for both services.


YISHUN COMMUNITY HOSPITAL

Yishun Community Hospital (YCH) is one of Singapore’s largest community hospitals to provide rehabilitation services. Situated beside Khoo Teck Puat Hospital, the two hospitals are connected by sky link bridges. The 428-bed Yishun Community Hospital provides intermediate care for recuperating patients who do not require the intensive care services of an acute-care hospital. UEMS was awarded the housekeeping contract in December 2015 for outpatient areas. Together as a team, the mobilisation took place immediately and manpower was deployed within few days to the site to support the initial cleaning and MOH licensing at YCH.


SINGAPORE BUDDHIST ASSOCIATION – GRACELODGE NURSING HOME

UEMS was awarded the cleaning contract for GraceLodge (SBWS) which consists a 300 bedded Nursing Home, a Childcare centre (Gracechild Development Centre) and Student care centre (Hearty Care Centre). The contract commenced on November 2015.

2. The E50 Awards seek to recognise the 50 most enterprising privately-owned local companies in Singapore. The ranking of the top 50 companies was primarily based on a set of qualitative criteria that include business model, productivity and innovation, management ideals and governance, risk management, and market presence in the region and beyond. In addition, a set of quantitative performance indicators over a three-year period was also taken into consideration in ranking the companies.

 

3.  We are a second time recipient of the E50 Awards and are happy to inform that we are ranked Top 3, i.e. 3 rd position out of 50 recipient companies this year. This clearly shows the credentials of the Company and the ability to stay ahead of the curve through our readiness to adapt our strategies and operations to changing market conditions and continue to embrace innovation, technology and new business models.

Notification of Change of Company Ownership From United Engineers Ltd (UE) to Dymon Asia Private Equity (DAPE)

1. We are pleased to announce that Dymon Asia Private Equity (“DAPE”), a Temasek-linked equity fund has invested into UE Managed Solutions Pte. Ltd. (“UEMS Group”). The Fund’s key focus is to invest in promising business enterprises in Singapore, and work with and enable such enterprises to grow to the next level and become international or regional market leaders.)

2. The wholly-owned subsidiaries of UEMS Group are as follows: (a) UE Managed Solutions Singapore Pte. Ltd. ("UEMS Singapore"); (b) UE Managed Solutions Malaysia Sdn. Bhd. ("UEMS Malaysia"); (c) UE Managed Solutions Taiwan Limited ("UEMS Taiwan"); and (d) ServiceMaster Hong Kong Limited ("UEMS Hong Kong"), (collectively, the "UEMS Subsidiaries"). The principal business activities of the UEMS Subsidiaries are the provision of facilities management services. )

3. With this, there will be a change of ownership on the current 51% share of UEMS Group from United Engineers Limited (UE) to DAPE accordingly. DAPE will assume as the new shareholder for the 51% share of UEMS Group. The completion of the transaction is currently scheduled to take place on 30 January 2015. Q2. Why does DAPE invest in UEMS?
A2. DAPE invests in UEMS as it sees UEMS as a very promising best-in-class facilities management company providing end-to-end solutions with huge growth potential to expand in Singapore, regionally and internationally. It is a well-established, innovative and forward-looking company with good track records and a good management team.

 

Q3. What is DAPE’s immediate plans for UEMS?
A3. DAPE intends to expand UEMS aggressively in Singapore, regionally and internationally. There are great opportunities in expanding into both new and existing markets, especially in hospital support services (house- keeping, portering, transport nurse, facilities management) in the healthcare sector as well as corporate real estate and facilities management services in both the private and public sector.

 

Q4. With this change of ownership, will operations offered to clients be affected?
A4. It is DAPE’s intent for this transaction to ensure that the transition of ownership from UE to DAPE is as seamless as possible, with no disruption to the services provided to UEMS’ clients. Business will be as usual. All current management team members and facility staff will be retained by DAPE to provide the service continuity.

Q5. How would DAPE contribute to UEMS to serve existing and future clients better, especially in healthcare facilities?
A5. DAPE views UEMS as a key investment, and as the new majority shareholder, is fully focused on supporting the management team’s strategic plan to:

  • Improve service to clients, through providing quality service
  • Invest in technology to improve productivity and service standards
  • Attract, develop, upgrade and retain management talent and staff

Q6. How will DAPE add more values to UEMS's services to its clients?
A6. DAPE intends to invest in technology tools and further develop UETrack™ and other technological solutions and offer them to clients so that they can benefit from this. The investment in technology tools helps to enhance productivity, helps to improve operations and service quality as well as the capabilities and efficiency for our clients. DAPE intends to grow UEMS to be a regional and international player. With greater scale and internationalization, UEMS will strengthen its ability to attract, develop and retain management talent, invest more to develop innovative services as well as share best practices across different markets.
